Dear readers of Tecnogalaxy, today I will tell you about some methods to send anonymous email through some portals freely available on the internet. I happened to handle cases where some users had received threatening emails with sender’s address themselves. How was that possible?

In the simplest cases to see where the email started, just analyze the email header and find the IP address, make a traceroute and figure out where it started.

In the more complex cases if the sender was in VPN or even in the dark web, even if the mail header is analyzed the IP you will find will not be real, in the sense that it will be impossible to track it.

Let’s start from the simplest cases, several portals offer this type of service to send email anonymously, the positive thing is that most of these emails will be placed in junk mail.

Let’s start by seeing the portals that you can find in the classic web.

Portals send anonymous email

I would like to point out that these types of services should be used for anonymity and not for fraud.

The first portal we will see is https://emkei.cz/, already used in the previous article (Technique phishing in detail).

Here is the description of the fields of the site:

  • From Name (Sender’s Email): the address of the fake email from which you want to send the message;
  • From E-Mail (e-mail of the recipient): the address of the person to whom you want to send the mail;
  • Subject (Subject of the mail): the title of the email;
  • Attachment: if you want to attach a file;
  • Text (Message): the text of the message you want to send;
  • Verification code, then click on “send“;

Second portal

The second portal is http://deadfake.com/send.aspx.

Here is the description of the fields of the site:

  • To (Sending Email): the address of the fake email from which you want to send the message;
  • From (Receiving E-mail): address of the recipient to whom you want to send the mail;
  • Subject (Subject): the title of the email;
  • Message: Text of the message to send;
  • Verification code and click on send now;

Third portal

The third portal is http://send-email.org/.

Here is the description of the fields of the site:

Send-Email allows you to send anonymous emails, but without customizing the sender. Simply fill in the empty fields as needed.

Fourth portal

The fourth portal is https://www.filemail.com/.

Here is the description of the fields of the site:

  • A (e-mail): the address of the fake email from which you want to send the message;
  • From (e-mail): address of the recipient to whom you want to send the mail;
  • Subject: the title of the email;
  • Message: Text of the message to be sent;

Analyze anonymous email

If we analyze the header of these mails, the first IP address we find is (167.114.101.158).

Making a traceroute, the e-mail came from Montreal.

If we continue with the analysis we find another IP address (which for privacy reasons I do not write to you, will be similar to 2.228.-.-), it will be the real IP from where the mail started.

Understand if an email comes form the dark web

Now we move on to the dark web case, (this is a real case), mail sent directly from the dark web. First to understand if an email comes from that world, (we take as an example the email pippo@secmail.pro), doing some searches on Google with the domain (@secmail.pro) we can see that the links found are not accessible.

Result of our research:

The result obtained from this first survey makes me understand that the mail received was sent from the dark web, we just have to access to do further checks. To access the dark web, we have to download Tor Browser, we do the installation and go into the dark web (be careful).

Script the address that in Google had not worked and I paste it in the URL in Toor, bingo! We have the certainty that the emails come from the dark web and the portal exists.

I register and do a test by sending the email to my address, analyze the header and make a traceroute to see if the IP is identical to the email, we analyzed earlier, the IPs correspond 167.114.101.-.

Unfortunately, the emails sent by the dark web are not traceable, if the server offering the service is in another jurisdiction for a user “call it normal”, there is nothing to do. Only the government or the body of some army in case of an investigation could ask the state for cooperation (where the portal is registered), to have the real IP.
